Our History
Domes Audio Video Environments is celebrating our 30th anniversary! We are a family-owned and operated company, founded by brothers Lee and Jeff Whedbee in 1980. As lifelong Chesapeake residents, we began the company with a focus on home C-Band satellite television systems. Our reputation for quality products and installations caused business to grow rapidly, and our wives Beverly and Marti soon joined the company. To meet client demand, Domes has undergone four expansions. Together, we adopted immerging technology and were frontrunners in pioneering the home theater concept now mimicked by other area independent retailers and big box chains. Over the years, we have continually expanded product offerings and services as the home entertainment industry has evolved. Domes is renowned throughout Virginia for high performance audio and video. Our passion for studio quality products has fueled our growth as the leading provider of home entertainment systems and gained us access to the finest products and brands worldwide. We now serve the entire Hampton Roads area, as well as Williamsburg, the Outer Banks, and surrounding areas.
Since day one, high performance has been the foundation of every aspect of our business. Our commitment to this goal is reflected in every decision we make, every product we carry, every system we design, every team member we hire. Our team of talented professionals, most of whom have been with us ranging from five to nearly fifteen years, are extremely knowledgeable in areas of architecture, construction, electronics, and custom lighting design. We have a corporate commitment to frequent education to insure that every member of our team is versed in the latest technologies. Our technicians are trained in many disciplines, enabling Domes to provide a comprehensive installation and calibration of everything we sell. And every team member is subject to pre-employment screening, is bonded, and insured.
Domes is honored to have been recognized by prestigious institutions such as CEPro Magazine, The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, The Virginian Pilot, and other national and local organizations for our professional and civic contributions over the years, but we are most honored that our clients have confidently referred their family and friends to us time and time again.
We have long been involved in supporting our community through various programs and causes like the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Towne Bank’s annual Charity Golf Tournament, various events for the Great Bridge Battlefield Waterways and History Foundation, the annual “Use Your Brain Day” program, the CHKD charity house at Homearama, and we continually support the arts and youth athletics throughout Hampton Roads.
